I’ll admit it. I’ve spent more time getting familiar with Google+ than I ever dreamed possible!!

There’s quite a lot to learn about optimizing your experience, whether you’re looking to expand your social platform, have more interesting conversations, or both. (Me!)

This Back to School with Google+ is the first in a series of posts that will take you from your very first sign up to getting deep into your settings for the most satisfying results. I’m giving you the benefit of my time and experience with social networks so you can get the same results much faster and easier. Because I’m nice like that. Plus, I’m writing a Google+ book for Amazon and you all ask good questions!

Google+ still in Beta, but the community is growing fast and NOW is the time to create your profile and customize it so that you can have the kind of experience you want.

Why Google+?

Google+ fascinates me more than any other platform because it combines the best attributes of TwitterFacebook, Blogging, YouTube, and Tumblr. There’s no telling what’s going to happen with it or what exciting new approaches people are going to take. I learned recently about an ongoing cooking hangout that’s like a podcast, kind of like a blog, sort of like YouTube, and supercool because it’s live. People love that kind of energy and I can’t wait to explore hangouts in a lot more detail.

We’ve only just begun to scratch the surface. Now is the time to dive in.

Your Homework:

Sign up for Google+.

  • You can use any email address
  • You’ll need to sign up with your real name instead of a business name (at this point in time).

If you’ve already created your account, please circle me and you’ll receive an A+ for this first assignment!

Please share this first post in the Back to School with Google+ series with your friends, colleagues, and clients! Any questions? Please ask!

    Hi Lori,

This sure is a great post!

I can so well relate to it, as I have become an addict myself ever since I joined Google+, with all other social networking platforms taking a back seat!

    Thanks for sharing :)

Just signed up tonight! I’m so excited to be able to find out what Google+ has to offer. When I first heard about it, I wasn’t so sure. I felt like it might just be Facebook on steroids, but this is so much more than that! You’re right when you say that it’s all of those other Social sites in one. Facebook will probably become the next myspace, and myspace might just cease to exist altogether.

I totally agree with you about Facebook starting to look a little like MySpace, Natasha!! I remember my friends slowly migrating to Facebook alone (because of all the double posting!) and watching MySpace circle the drain.

Just wanted to add that I’ve gotten a few slaps for saying this online, but I think it’s the truth. We shall see!
